The goal of the Open-Source Wish Project is to create perfectly-worded wishes, so that when the genie comes and grants us our wish we can get precisely what we want. The genie, of course, will attempt to interpret the wish in the most malicious way possible, using any loophole to turn our wish into a living hell. The Open-Source Wish Project hopes to use the collective wisdom of all humanity to create wishes with no loopholes whatsoever.
The Open-Source Wish Project was inspired by this comic on Home on the Strange.
This wish's intent is to give the user omnipotence – the power to do anything he or she wants.
And this is how what we would tell the genie to get it:
"I wish to have all the power that you, the Genie, currently have now, keeping my current mind and mental state, but without being restricted by having to give other people wishes or any other restrictions that you, to the best of your knowledge of me, would realize that I would find restrictive."
1) If you think you have found a loophole (or "bug") in the current Wish wording that could backfire significantly, cut-and-copy the precise phrase you have issues with and post your suggested fix thusly:
BUGGED PHRASE:
…the erroneous part of the phrase.
POTENTIAL MISINTERPRETATION:
An explanation of how the phrase could be twisted to serve that genie's evil ends.
SUGGESTED FIX:
…the reworded phrase. Note that if you do not provide an alternative wording, you are merely wasting our time with nitpicking. Be a part of the solution!
2) If you think the current Wish wording is lacking something that could be disastrous, then post it thusly:
WORDING OMISSION:
…the suggested phrase you think should be in the wish.
POTENTIAL MISINTERPRETATION:
An explanation of how, without this added clause, our wish could come to ruin.
3) If you think the entire Wish wording is so hopelessly botched that you would need to wish for something else entirely to get what you'd actually want, post it this way:
BUGGED WISH WORDING:
Your new wording, rewritten from the ground up
REASON FOR NEW VERSION:
An explanation of why the foundations of the current Wish wording are so frotzed that it'd be better to start over, with a list of why your changes are better.
Periodically, all of the changes will be looked over by the moderators, and the most reasonable of the suggested changes will be incorporated into the official Wish text, at which point this thread will be closed and the new Wish version will be put open for discussion.
There are other Wish wordings for different goals, which you can see here. If you want to suggest a new Wish goal, go here. You may cut-and-copy the wish with attribution to its original source on Home on the Strange.
That said, let's wishulate! |

BUGGED PHRASE:
"...all the power that you, the Genie, currently have now..."
POTENTIAL MISINTERPRETATION:
This is, of course, assuming that the Genie is omnipotent and/or has an infinite amount of power.
SUGGESTED FIX:
"...any and all powers that I, the wisher, deem necessary or worthwhile..." |

WORDING OMISSION:
"...and the knowledge required to use that power..."
POTENTIAL MISINTERPRETATION:
Simply having all of the Genie's power is useless if you don't know how to use it. It could be that your new power requires you to speak a special phrase or wiggle your nose or something similar. |

This should be it's own topic, but I can't make new topics and this thread is the most appropriate.
Suggested wish:
I wish for an alternate dimension, with a friendly , breathable atmosphere and a pleasant, livable climate, with no other inhabitants or beings with the inherent ability to travel to it, accessible and escapable by me at any time, which will have a reality as moldable as a "holodeck" from Star Trek: The Next Generation, and which you, the Genie, will make as easy and safe to use as possible.
The purpose of the wish is to create "test worlds" where you can see the effects of your wishes before you wish for them, but there would naturally be other benefits as well. As long as you don't mind sex with a hologram, you could have unlimited sexual encounters, and of any type you wanted.
Naturally, it would be nice to be able to control time while having this ability, so that you could "pause" the real world while off in the fantasy one. Although that brings up the problem of what happens to the universe if you die or become trapped in the hologram, and a caveat dealing with that should go into the time control wish.
Not a perfect wish, but what do you think? |

I think the proposed wish is flawed in a number of ways. First the genie could interpret themselves as having no actual power other than the ability to grant X wishes to anyone who [does whatever a person has to do to use the genie.] So in effect, if the genie intereprets their own power as this, when you ask for that power without being restricted to give other people wishes, he could be granted you that wish by doing absolutely nothing. I propose two alternatives
Option #1:
"I wish I was omnipotent."
This is very simple. I cant see anything wrong with it, but I fear simplicity in wishes so I'm very wary of this wish, and provide another
Option #2:
"I wish I had the ability to do anything instantly at will, and had all the knowledge required to use that ability, and the use of said ability would cause no change to myself other than the change(s) I was desiring in the use of the ability, if any. This ability must not expire after any number of uses, I must have this ability for the duration of my life, except in the case where I use my ability to remove that ability." _________________ "Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position. Such a heavy burden now to be the One
Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending, to write it down for all the world to see."

POTENTIAL MISINTERPRETATION:
It's rather useless if your new power requires you to wiggle your nose if you can't wiggle your nose. |
