All my fiercely loyal possum love is yours for all time. (Hopefully, with less blood on the carpet).

In The Beast’s Belly, Part 12
The bathroom door opens. Tanner stands drunkenly in the doorway, the scene now pretty much the same as we’ve seen when Izzy first laid eyes upon it.
TANNER: Ann? You were yelling, and –
(He looks down at the possum, who looks up at him warily.)
TANNER: What the hell? Why is a possum in the room, attacking people? Why –
TANNER (slumping): Oh, hell. I ran over a possum. This is just karma.
(Tanner drops to the floor.)
TANNER: Well, if you’re going to maul people, you might as well maul me. I hurt you badly, and I probably deserve whatever you can dish out. So go ahead. Put me out of my misery.
(The possum creeps up to Tanner, who winces… And instead, it licks him on the cheek with a possumy grin, or perhaps nuzzles him. In the final panel, Tanner smiles and hugs it, getting blood on his forehead.)
TANNER: …or maybe you remember how hard I tried to save your life.
