The Script For Today's Comic!

Breakin’ In Da Benjamins

SCENE:
Tom and Karla are, once again, in the kitchen. Tom is sorting through the mail, and pulls out an envelope that catches his eye.

TOM: Hey! My check’s here! Joey told me he got his….

KARLA (confused): Your check?

TOM: My first royalty check. My old band Program finally earned out our advance!

TOM (reminiscing, a little fondly, as Karla looks on proudly – she likes having a husband who’s made a difference, even if she didn’t like his band or his music): It’s nice to know you’re not forgotten. I mean, for six years Program was my life – I slept in alleys so we could keep touring.

TOM: It’s good to know that someone’s still listening to the music.

KARLA (immediately after this speech, in the same panel): And all that effort has earned you….?

TOM (having opened the envelope, looking at it in shell shock, so stunned he can hardly believe it): $32.60.

KARLA (patting Tom on the shoulder fondly, staring at the envelope with him): Six years of alley-sleeping is going to buy us one wild night at Olive Garden.

If you click on this link and vote for us, not only will you be helping us out and raising our traffic, but you'll get to see an advance sketch of Friday's strip, "The Band Will Perform Tomorrow"!

Today’s strip is inspired by my past experience with royalty checks. If you’d like to prove me wrong, feel free to buy my LAN Party Guide. Really. Buy a whole goddamned lot of copies.

In other news, my friend Storn A. Cook – artist on a whole bunch of Champions books, and a darned fine roleplayer – now has his own strip at Catspaw. It’s not a funny comic, but it is the kind of thing that Home on the Strange may one day reference, being a fantasy comic set in its own world. If this pans out like any of the adventures I’ve shared with Storn in the Red Dragon Universe (a gigantic Champions campaign helmed by the inestimable Neil Carver, who would be world famous if GMing got half the respect it deserved), then it’s gonna be a fun ride. Get in on it now while you still can.

And while we’re at it, let me also plug a strip that Roni and I are enjoying – Holy Bibble, a very cute strip interpreting events of the Bible. We got the link from Top Web Comics, the same place we keep encouraging you to vote at, so at least you know we’re checkin’ out the competition. And being impressed.
